Short biography:
Temujin was born to a poor, nomadic family in medieval Mongolia. He was very ambitious, and as he grew older, he began to make alliances with powerful Mongolians. In 1206 he succeeded in uniting the tribes into a single political identity, essentially founding the nation of Mongolia. At this time he took the title "Genghis Khan," which meant "universal ruler." In addition to ruling Mongolia, Genghis used his military skill to conquer other lands, such as China and Persia, creating the largest empire, in terms of land area, of all time.
