Short biography:
Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God and was actually a human incarnation of God himself. He lived in the Middle East and was raised as a Jew, but he soon realized that he was the son of God and began to teach the principles of a new religion, which developed into Christianity after his death. Being the son of God, Jesus possessed superhuman powers and performed numerous miracles. He soon gathered a devoted following, at the center of which was a group of his twelve closest friends, called the Apostles. Jesus faced opposition from the Romans, who ruled most of the known world, because of his religious beliefs, and one of his apostles, Judas, betrayed him to the Romans in exchange for silver. A Roman judge named Pontius Pilate had Jesus executed, but Jesus freely accepted his death. Three days after he died, Jesus resurrected, proving that he was indeed the son of God. Christians believe that Jesus' death redeemed humanity from Adam and Eve's original sin, and enabled people to go to Heaven in the afterlife.
