Short biography:
Isaac Newton was one of the greatest geniuses of all time and is ranked with Albert Einstein as one of the two most influential scientists ever. He graduated from Cambridge University and became a professor there. Newton considered 1665 to be one of the most productive years of his life, since this is when he made most of his discoveries. Newton's accomplishments include discovering the laws of gravity, founding the field of calculus (independently from but at the same time as a German mathematician), and determining the behavior of light. In 1687 he published his scientific finds in a book called Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, commonly known as Principia, after its Latin title. In 1704, he published his other major work, Opticks, which explained how light behaves.
