Short biography:
Victoria became queen upon the death of her uncle, King William IV, and her reign turned out to be one of the most successful in British history. During Victoria's reign, Britain became a leader in the industrial revolution and, even more importantly, became the greatest empire in the world at the time by solidifying its control over its colonies and conquering new lands, such as India. Victoria led Britain to victory against Russia in the Crimean War from 1854 to 1856. She was also queen during the Boer Wars, in which England tried to crack down on its colonists in South Africa. During the First Boer War, England gave the Boers self-government, but during the Second Boer War, England regained control of South Africa. The people of England greatly respected Victoria, and her reign is now known as the Victorian Era.
