Paul Anka’s new song and role in Chicago Columbus Day Parade

Singer and songwriter Paul Anka served as the Grand Marshall of the Chicago Columbus Day Parade and was awarded the Columbus Medal for lifetime achievement by the JCCIA, the organization that puts on the parade.

Check out his post here or below:

Also, perhaps even more notably, Anka wrote a new version of the song “My Way,” which makes a statement against the removal of historical statues. You can see a snippet of him singing it at the parade here or here, and the full version on YouTube here

The website “We The Italians” wrote an article about Anka’s new song:

Paul Anka has discovered a new way to honor Christopher Columbus. The legendary singer/songwriter has penned an updated version of his classic Frank Sinatra hit “My Way” with lyrics that strike back at those who want to erase the memory of the famed explorer.

“For fun, food, friends, there’s never a lack // you’re going to get those statues back,” he wrote in the new song.

Chicago Columbus Day Parade 2024

This year’s Columbus Day parade in Chicago was significant because indigenous people (specifically from the Native American Guardians Association) joined forces with Italian Americans and took part in the parade. Check out some coverage of the parade below:
